Transportation information from the Cancun Airport TO Playa del Carmen:

This page is dedicated to giving you information on Cancun Airport Transfers to Playa Del Carmen, Tulum and Riviera Maya, buses, taxis, ferries, car rental, motor bikes, mopeds and tips on how to move around the Riviera Maya.

Airport Transfers: Nothing better than to get to the airport and have a friendly face hold up your name and take you to your destination in a private Van. For less than a taxi cost you and better service !
These airport transfer (Cancun Airport transfers) can take you to almost any destination on the Riviera Maya.
We also are fully insured, have air conditioning and have capacity for up to 14 people (without luggage).

If you are going to Cancun or to the Ferry to Isla Mujeres you can only have the option of the SHARED VAN.

Other transfers to other destinations are available email us for the price to those destinations: Tulum, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Puerto Morelos others.
You must pre-pay for the pick-up at airport with the above mentioned transportation. They will have a sign with your last name.
Also payment is done with Paypal.com an eBay company. Please make payment and reservation 48 hours prior to your arrival.

Cancellation Policy: cancel 48 hours prior to your arrival 90% back. Less than 48 hours 0% back sorry. If you get to the airport and for some strange reason you decide to take another van we will not refund your payment.

You will go through immigration, get your bags, through customs and walk out the terminal were our driver will be holding your name on a paper. There are lots of drivers, look for our driver with your name.

Shuttle Bus
by far the cheapest way of transportation in the Riviera Maya, but also the one that takes the longest. Buses have come a long way in Mexico. You can still find buses with chickens and goats on the roof but for the most part they have all the comforts of the buses north of the boarder. If you need to rent a bus let us know it can be arranged.

Taxi Fares in Playa Del Carmen

• Always carry small bills or correct change.
• Ask your concierge for the price so you don't get any surprises, and confirm it with the driver.
• Most taxi drivers don't speak English so have your directions written down on paper.
• The current average cost for a taxi within Playa del Carmen is 15 pesos.

Taxis in Tulum

Taxis from Tulum to Cancun Airport cost $65 USD approximately but if you bargain with them, you can maybe end up paying $55.  This can be achieved by not calling the taxi service but by stopping a taxi in the street, arranging a price and then telling him to come and pick you up at your hotel.

Taxi from Tulum to Playa Del Carmen approx. rate $35. Sometimes it is possible to bargain your way to $28 USD.

Bus & Public Transportation

The Bus terminal is located 1 Block from the ferry and directly in front of MacDonald's,  Avenida 5 con Juarez.
Buses to can Cancun run every 10 minutes and cost 32 Pesos.
Buses to Tulum run every 30 minutes

Personal Note:
We at Travel Riviera Maya no longer book rental cars for our clients. We have found that it is more efficient for the client driving the car to make the reservation. We have also found often times you can get a better deal if you shop around online with some of the major car rental agencies and book it through them.

Most of the major rental car companies are in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Mexico. If you have a good or bad experience with an agency, Please let us know so we can share it with our clients.

Ferry Schedule to Cozumel
(Tip: There are 2 ferry companies now... their schedules are similar but make sure if you are buying a round trip ticket ...make sure it is from from the right company... one may have a later or earlier departure than the other one. Check this before you buy your round trip ticket.)
