The Glass Restaurant
from 6 pm - dinner
Street 8th between 5th Avenue and 1st Avenue
Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar
Price range between $150 Pesos and $350 Pesos ($15 usd to $35 usd)
We personally believe that this is one of the best restaurants in Playa del
Carmen!
It is on the pricier end of restaurants here but it is worth it. We have
gone there for all the special occasions we can think of. It is a treat. Some of
the items we have enjoyed on the menu are the duck, risotto, endive salad and an
unbelievable chocolate desert that is to die for. Nice wine selection for Playa. They are open
from 6 pm to 1 am.
We recommend that you reserve a table
ahead of time, just to be safe.
Located on a side street...between 5th Ave and 1st Ave. on 8th street

Babes Restaurant and Bar
from 5pm to 1 am
5th Avenue between street 28th and street 30th
Mexican Thai
Babe's Noodles and Bar, established in 2000, is a Swedish owned Restaurant and
Bar with specialty Thai noodles and a mixed European kitchen. The bar makes the
best mojitos, blueberry daiquiris, margaritas, smoothies and juices. Everything
is freshly prepared at the time you order.
Babe's has TWO great restaurant locations to serve you in Playa del Carmen! One,
in the center of town, just off Playa's famous 5th Avenue. The other, in the
fast growing and very popular North end of town, right on 5th Avenue.
Combined with delicious eats, the funky decor featuring pin-up girls and Barbie
dolls, as well as personal attention from the owners, this is a dining
experience you won't want to miss!

El Fogon
from 12 pm to 12 am
30th Avenue between street 32nd and street 34th
Local Mexican
This is truly a local place too good to be true
and CHEAP!
The food is authentic, plentiful (as the portions are double in size), and
absolutely delicious. The cold Corona is about 18 pesos ($1.80) and you can have
all the tacos (chorizo, steak, chicken) along with special plates that included
a small baked potato, chips/guacamole (amazing, fresh and just perfect), choice
of meat, for about 85 pesos ($8.50 USD).
El Fogon is about 5-6 blocks off 5th Avenue.
The staff doesn't really speak english, so expect
to practice your spanish; having said that the staff is very friendly and
accommodating and the service quick.
There's no AC and the trick is to choose a table
near the front to get some airflow !

Super Carne CH
12 pm 21 pm
Street 1 sur between Avenue 20th and Avenue 25th
Meat
This is the best place where to eat "Arrachera" the
National meat, for less.
They grill everything in front of your eyes, the meat is always fresh and
incredibly good. They have a package with meat, potato and guacamole for only
$90 pesos ($9 usd). This restaurant is located outside the tourist area but is
very close to 5th avenue and Paseo del Carmen, the "open air" mall of Playa del
Carmen.

El Asador de Manolo
12 pm to 11 pm
10th Avenue between 24th and 26th Streets
Argentine Meat
This is a good place for a nice romantic dinner,
but you must love meat.
Our favorite is the Tenderloin steaks, we tried the one with garlic and the one
with black pepper. Very tender and flavorful. Here you can sample the most
exquisite grilled Argentine meat, in a warm tropical environment.
This place isn't cheap but the food and service are top notch.

Dona Mary - Loncheria Restaurant
5 pm to 12 pm
30th Avenue at corner with street 28th
Local Mexican Mayan
This
is another out of the way place (at least for tourists) but its one of the best
secrets in town for a simple (casual!) Mexican dinner. Sorry they are not open
for lunch but they say that it would cut into their siesta time. (It is the only
thing that stops us from going twice a day.) They are open from about 7pm to
12am and they are closed on Mondays. Knowing a little Spanish or a pocket dictionary would be helpful, it is
all Spanish speaking.
Our favorites are the Tostadas (less than $1) and the chicken soup (called caldo
less than $2) is fantastic. They also have empanadas, enchiladas, fresh juices
and a few other items. Five person can eat there and spend about 150 pesos = $15 usd.
It is always full of people which is a good sign. This is another place as a
tourist you would never hear about. Take a taxi, it is easiest and not a problem
to catch one to go back into town.
Its run by 7 Mexican women. A must!

Tango Taco
2 pm to 12 pm
street 10th
between Avenue 10th and Avenue 15th
Meat
This spot is a great new find for us locals. We highly recommend it! It is run
by Italians and it's all about meat! They also have some nice sauces
that are typical for Argentina that we don't usually get.
We had heard about it from some local friends and when we went to try it out, we
tried a little bit of everything. Everything was good! Everything. The things we
didn't order, we admired from near by tables.
Simple, casual dining at outside tables. Honestly the service is a little slow,
but this is typical here and when the food is good enough, you don't mind.
Prices are reasonable.
And also in general they had tacos of various meats... they were all nice.
They
also had good looking hamburgers. Fries, Baked potatoes and beans.
We also loved the ham and cheese empanadas but you have to get there early, they
sell out usually. All-around good place to eat, just make sure you are hungry.

Tsuba
4pm to 12 am
5th avenue at corner with street 34th
Sushi
If
you are looking for good sushi in Playa del Carmen this is the place. Located
almost at the end of the tourist part of 5th avenue (Mamitas beach club area)
all the table are open air in a modern and romantic atmosphere.
The menu offer a little bit of everything.
From Chicken Teriyaki to Sushi
rools,
miso soup and Edamame.
If you don't like the stroll of 5th avenue and prefer have a nice quiet dinner
this is the place and the best part is that is just walking distance.
The service is good, nothing different from the other restaurants in playa del
carmen.
Bars and Lounges
La Fe bar
best from 6 pm to 2 am
5th Avenue between street 26th and 28th
Beers and more beers
This is the
right place to drink bear listen good music and meet other people. There's
always someone having good time and on Wednesdays, ladies drink free Sangria
from 9-11 PM. La Fe is a favorite with both locals and visitors alike.
Deseo Lounge and Bar
Deseo lounge is one of the coolest spots in town. (2nd floor
open air bar) You have to go see it for yourself. It is worth a pricey drink to
be in the atmosphere. They have cozy platforms with large bed-size cushions and
flowing curtains above and usually some hip music tones being served up by the
popular DJ. Although we have not personally eaten there at the bar...we have
heard it is also very good but, pricey. All a part of the style. They
sometimes have old movies without sound running on one of the bar walls.
Location near the corner of 12th street on 5th Ave. Stairs lead you up to the
lounge area.
Om Bar
One of the newer bars. Seems to have a stylish crowd of
varying ages. On the corner at the entrance of the blue parrot hotel on 12th and
the beach. A Lot of Italians drinks there.
Tequila Barrel
A locals favorite just to hang out at a bar on 5th
Avenue. Usually good music playing...nice bartenders and of course pretty much
most of the tequilas are available there. Just a good spot. Locals are picky.
Located on 5th Ave between 10th and 12th street
Blue Parrot
It has been around for a long time. Popular bar centrally
located in town...on the beach. Usually goes later in the night. Younger crowd.
Swings at the bar. Locals also go there from time to time. Located on 12th
street and the beach... If you have hit the water, you have gone too far or had
too many tequilas at the tequila barrel.
